The Great Sunflower Has Arrived
Perhaps one of the most rewarding days in the garden each summer is to walk among the striking sunflower that were planting in early spring. Each year since I began growing sunflowers I could not help but think of planting more in the upcoming year. I wonder if there will ever be a year where I feel satisfied at the amount of sunflowers that so gracefully bloom in the veggie garden. I suppose I just can't get ENOUGH of the Midwest Sunflower.
This year I planted 8 different variety of sunflower. The photo above is a 10 foot tall Sunflower that I grew from a seed packet purchased at Target Sean Conway collection. It is beautiful!
Happy Summer Everyone!
Happy summer to you! That 10' tall sunflower... oh I cannot imagine how beautiful it is in real. From the photo... it is the most wonderful sunflower I have seen so far. Good job!
ReplyDeletei love sunflowers too. i have used it as my page background prior to the one iam using and i liked it so much. but i need a facelift, and pretty soon i might just change it again.
ReplyDeletehave a wonderful weekend, Bren!

Lucky you! I think they're so end of summer beautiful. I started some from seed also, then planted my little seedlings. Then the Mr. lovingly tried to do me the favor of putting tons of mulch out as a surprise. OVER my seedlings.
ReplyDeleteSunflowers, they really do signify Summer. Your photos are gorgeous... how I'd love to see that 10 foot tall Sunflower! Try as I might, I never have much success with them. We have one blooming in the garden just now. lol Which varieties are you growing Bren and which one is your favourite?
ReplyDeleteSunflowers are always so cheery. Your photos are so nice. The added bonus with the sunflowers is the birds who love their seeds.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! This midwestern girl loves sunflowers--but oddly enough has never planted them. I just enjoy the fields of them or the ones by the side of the road. Next year! (By the way, the neighbor down the street had one. One. The bloom was as big as a dinner plate. Huge!)
ReplyDeleteI just adore sunflowers. They are probably my favorite and just speak summer to me.
ReplyDeleteShe/they are absoulutely beautiful!! I wish I could grow them, I have had no luck with them. The deer and the rabbits get them before they are less than a foot tall.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!! The stinking squirrels cut the blooms off or ours!!!!
ReplyDelete10 feet tall, that's hard to imagine. Sunflowers are pretty and are so summery.
ReplyDeleteI love sunflowers too! Yours are beautiful! :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful, I think my sunflower seeds all washed away we had such a wet summer....Barb
ReplyDeleteI had one sunflower sport arise amongst the lily foliage. Can only guess it's from the bird seed. Very pretty while it lasted. (I'm not much of a gardener, but I do try!)
ReplyDeleteTen feet?? That's impressive, Bren! How about a scale photo..you standing next to it?
