My Bloom Tuesday for 3/31/09
Collection of Spring Yellow SEED REPORT - Transplanting the SEEDLINGS
Photo 1 - Scooping the little seedling of Basil out with a recycled plastic spoon.
- Photo 2 - I use the best tool ever (index finger!) to make the hole for the seedlings to be placed in the freshly added organic dirt filled peat pot size 3". Hopefully the plant will grow till I place it right in the ground in this container.
- Photo 3 - Carefully adding the little Basil seedling to the larger pod.
Photo 1 - Little Seedling reaches for the sun. I think he is happy to have more space! (wink)
- Photo 2 and 3 - New homes for the 3 week old seeds. I decided to try transplanting some of the basil seedlings to the terra cotta pot that usually sits along the herb path filled with basil. We will see what happens to these plants. I usually add the start plant to so this is exciting to grow my own. I can't help but think of all the Pesto I can make and freeze for the winter!
A dear friend from a Garden Network questioned lighting for the seeds so I wanted to address my heat lamp in this blog entry. The past few days were cloudy and cold so I did add a heat lamp to the seedlings / seeds to keep the soil above 50* and hopefully get those newly planted seedlings that needed full sun to start growing. I keep the lamp on over night.
The sun is up so I head out to the garden this morning. I hope you are able to get out and enjoy the day. Please start the tradition of sharing a Bloom Tuesday! Please tell me that the 90% chance of rain in the forecast for tomorrow is an April Fools?!

ReplyDeleteThose are some pretty daffodils and are my favorite flower. Your little seedlings are coming along nicely. We will be having rain for a few days to add to the already drenched ground. Not to complain since parts of the country are experiencing floods and blizzards. Hope you have a good day.
ReplyDeleteI use plastic spoons for moving seedlings too. Love your sunny daff. pictures. I am waiting for my Texas variety of daffodils to bloom, they are spectacular to say the least.

What spectacular photography! Love your daffs - they are so yellow compared to mine. Mine were a faded gold - I think I like the rich robust yellow of your better!

My daffodils were lovely but are gone as we had a rare 11 inches of snow the last day of February and they were in bloom. I love them - they are SPRING! Thanks for all your helpful tips with the garden. I really take your advice to heart.

You've got a lot of babies! I just love seeing what you're growing :). We just had 2min. of hail! I'm looking forward to April! The only gardening getting done today is pinching seedlings in the greenhouse and checking what has germinated- that's it! I like the plastic spoon- I've used sporks before.

ReplyDeleteyou are a busy girl with all the seedlings. ours are doing about the same i am thinking of transplanting some into bigger pots. i did with some a week ago but then we had a freeze and the newly transplanted ones were outside in a sheltered area. they are gonners.

Our neighbors have blooming daffodils but their trick is to have them planted on the south side with the dryer vent blowing down on the ground. Ours are only a few inches high. Your flowers are beautiful.
