This is what VEGGIE GARDENING is about!

Today was the Day I have been waiting for since early spring when I started a bunch of heirloom seeds in my 'make shift greenhouse'.

Russian Plums, Roma, Brandywine and a basket full of peppers is what was stewing in my kitchen to create a few jars of Italian Stews to be open on a cold winters day. TODAY is what VEGGIE GARDENING is all about for me. The smell of fresh picked basil and oregano mixed with onions from the garden. Can you smell it now?

The image above are quick shots taken with my Fuji Finepix of the Russian plums, a few of the finished pasta sauces and a bowl full of pasta for dinner. This is country living at it's finest.

I don't usually share recipes but I just have to share today's' stewed tomato creation.

Bren's Italian Pasta
6 cups of Roma - skinned and diced
3 large Brandywine Tomatoes
1 large sweet onion - diced
2 large green peppers ( diced)
2 gypsy peppers ( diced)
1/8 cup of basil chopped
1/8 cup of oregano - chopped
4 large cloves of garlic
dash of salt

Bring the above ingredients to a boil.

Add cooked and diced Sweet Italian Sausage and serve over whole wheat pasta noodles.

I blogged a step by step entry about CANNING last summer at THE ART OF CANNING
if you would like to read more about processing using the HOT BATH method.

ENJOY!!!! Can't wait to share my next harvest this summer.

Well done! It all looks very healthy and worth the effort. I think heirloom plants are unique looking and taste better.

Bren, I love to see fresh canned things. It may sound silly but they look so pretty. I use to can alot in my younger days and I always loved seeing new cans of veggies, fruits ans jams all put up on shelves. That looks like a great fair entry.

I will definitely try your recipe, thanks for sharing. I too was an avid canner. There's something so satisfying about lining up cans of fresh vegetables and fruits preserved for when the snow flies and the fresh from the garden becomes wishful thinking.

I am so envious of people who can, I am always afraid of doing it wrong and maybe poisoning someone. My grandmother always canned tomatoes. Maybe I will give it a try. I read your informative post with the how to's. Thanks.
PS. Love the music! Twilight?
