Hanging Basket Sunday

Hanging Basket Design '09
One of my favorite additions to our garden each planting season is to create hanging baskets for our front porch. This year I have decided to use a fiber cone basket that I am reusing from last year. I'm in love with the straw fiber mix in front of my stoned porch. It is just a fabulous mix of texture which softens the rock.
I can't take ALL the credit on the basket planning because I first saw this variety of Coleus and Centradenia paired together at a local greenhouse during one of my many tours this spring. I decided to make it a HANGING CREATION rather then in container and add some strepto to it to accent the blue in my rock that is located on the porch where this beauty will hang this season. This is going to put on a fabulous show as the summer approaches and well beyond. I will for sure share more images as this hanging basket progresses.

Annuals Used:

COLEUS COLEO - BEAUTY OF LYON

CASCADE CENTRADENIA

DOLPHINE VIOLET STREPTOCARPELLA

Container Note:
I use Soil Moist in my container and basket designs. This has always insured that the soil remains moist and helps hold water which will eliminate additional watering when the season turns dry. I also sprinkle a good fertilizer pellet with slow release in the soil of my planting. THIS DOES NOT eliminate the need to fertilize weekly.

NOTES FROM LAST YEAR
I used the bonfire begonia and a doubling dragon wing begonia for bright orange color. The streptos I added last year were drowned out by the bonfire and the red leave accent plant I decided to use. UNFORTUNATELY, I didn't note the variety of the accent but will look in my garden bag for the tag.

Looking forward to see what this years creation will bring to the front entrance porch of our home.

Boo found another spot I need to weed so off to the garden I go..........

That sounds and looks like a very pretty basket Bren. I've never thought of putting that moisture control in a hanging basket before. That is a great idea!
